Update on our learning...

 Hello Parents/Guardians,

This week we talked all about Terry Fox and how he was a hero. He ran a marathon every day to try to make it across Canada. His goal was to raise money for cancer research. We watched a couple videos and learned that over 750 million has been raised in Terry Fox's name for cancer research. We all tried to run as many laps as we could during the Terry Fox run! Thank you for all the donations that came in this week.

In science, we are learning all about Fall. We brainstormed lots of things that we already know about fall. We know that the leaves change colour to be yellow, red and orange.

In social studies we brainstormed what communities and groups we belong to. We each had to draw or write down 4 under each column.

In math we are still working on patterns. We had lots of fun creating our own patterns during our stations and gluing our Chester the cat patterns to our page.

In art we created a nice title page for our Visual Journals. We drew and coloured self portraits! We made sure our heads took up most of the page.

Library Books

Hello Parents/Guardians,

Today we had our first day of library. We loved looking in the library for a book that looked interesting to us! We each took out a book that is due back to the school on Thursday, Oct. 3rd. In order to take out a new book on Oct. 3rd, students must bring back their borrowed book. Every time we have library we will return our old library books and take out a new one.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thank you,

Ms. Medeiros

Lunch Progams

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I wanted to provide more information regarding the lunch programs we offer at school. There is no obligation to purchase from them, but they are an option.

On Thursdays we have a Hot Lunch Program that ranges from $2-$3. The food item changes weekly. Students are welcome to bring in money to purchase their lunch on Thursdays from the canteen in the gymnasium.

The other lunch program we have at the school is called Healthy Hunger. Here is a bit of information from School Council:

"Need a break from planning lunch? School Council has partnered with Healthy Hunger for our Fun Lunch Program provided to students every Wednesday.
Parents you can now order hot lunch items from Healthy Hunger! Click the link below and sign up today! Emails will be sent to remind you to order and all payments are made online so no need to send money to the school. A nice treat for kids and helps raise funds for the school. Thank you for your support!"

Learning Links

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I had a couple of parents asking about additional practice online that students can work on at home. I have found some learning websites with different games that students can try if they are interested. There are ads that appear on the websites so I recommend parental supervision when your child is on the site. These are optional websites.

Thank you!

Update on our learning..

We have been learning all about colours these past couple of weeks. We talked about the primary colours (red, yellow and blue). We even experimented with watercolour pencil crayons. Students mixed their red, yellow and blue watercolour to make orange, green and purple for our bird art project!

We have been reviewing a letter every day. Today's letter was N. We came up with an action to help us remember what sound N makes. Ask me what the action was! (hint: airplane)

In math, we have been working on patterns. We have played two different pattern games so far that we are all enjoying! We have also made patterns out of blocks and coloured them onto our worksheets.

In social studies, we are working on an "All About Me" booklet. Today we wrote down what school we go to and drew what we thought OLR looked like.

First week of Grade 1

What a great first week of Grade 1. We have been busy adjusting to our new routines and getting to know our classmates. We have had time to explore some of the materials and activities in our classroom. Below are a few pictures of our first week.
